Para Pemancing,

Terima kasih kerana meluangkan masa untuk membaca lakaran ini!

Kebelakangan ini, memancing telah menjadi aktiviti rekreasi yang amat digemari dinegara kita. Namun, beberapa isu kini mencabar kita. Isu seperti kepupusan spesis ikan negara, pencamaran dan penghapusan habitat ikan, serta kemunduran sikap dan tatasusila dikalangan para pemancing. Jadi, kita sebagai pemancing yang berhemah perlulah menunjuk jalan dan menjadi contoh kepada yang lain.

Jika kita memberi pendekatan dalam memancing dengan cara yang beretika serta mesra-alam, maka ini akan memberi hasil positif yang boleh dinikmati semua. Akan ada banyak ikan diperairan kita. Tiada sampah ditepi sungai atau tasik, tiada sisa terapung-apung didalam air. Tingkahlaku para pemancing pun tidak menjolok mata. Alangkah ini visi yang menyeronokkan!

Walau bagaimanapun, perubahan mestilah bermula dengan kita sendiri. Marilah kita menjadi pemancing contoh, dan mempraktikkan aktiviti memancing secara beretika.

Sila baca syor kami, ia itu Peraturan Memancing Secara Beretika. Berbincanglah peraturan ini bersama rakan-rakan anda. Buatlah salinan fotokopi dan unjurkanlah kepada pemancing lain. Lebih baik, tinggalkan beberapa salinan di kedai-kedai pancing yang berdekatan, supaya orang lain akan mendapat ‘mesej’ kita!

Thank you for spending time to read this! Fishing has become a fast-developing recreational activity in Malaysia, in recent years. However, with this has arised certain issues to challenge us. Issues like reduced fish stocks due to habitat destruction, the threat from alien fishes, the spoiled environment, and poor etiquette and behaviour among certain fishermen. We anglers thus need to show the way and do it right. We need to be good examples for others to follow.

If we approach our fishing in the right way, the results will be there for us to enjoy. There will still be fish in our rivers, lakes and seas; we will not see rubbish strewn all over the banks or floating in the water; and we will not be irritated or frustrated by other fishermen’s conduct. Won’t that be a good future?

But the change must start with ourselves. Let’s be the role models, and practice Ethical Fishing!

Please read through these suggested Rules for Ethical Fishing. Discuss them with your fishing buddies. Make copies of this handout and pass them to others. Better still, leave a few copies in your regular fishing shops, or any place where fishermen hang out. The more we spread the message, the better for us!
